Measure and sift
together: Flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and cream tartar. Cut in shortening
until mixture is like coarse corn meal. Add milk quickly. Stir just to
make soft but not sticky dough. Turn out on floured board. Knead lightly
for a few minutes. Pat thin enough for a 1/2 inch biscuit cutter. Cut.
Place on baking sheet. Bake in hot oven 450 degrees for 12-15 minutes.
