Applesauce Cake II

1/2 C. boiling water2 C. flour
1 C. raisins1/2 t. salt
1 C. brown sugar1/2 t. cloves
3/4 C. melted shortening½ t. nutmeg
1 egg1 t. cinnamon
1 1/2 C. sweetened applesauce2 t. soda

Instructions

Put boiling water on raisins. Let sit a few minutes and drain. Cream together brown sugar and melted shortening. Add egg and applesauce. Add flour, salt, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, soda, which has been mixed well together.
Bake in 9 by 13 inch pan for about 30-40 minutes at 350 degrees.
Frost with caramel frosting.

Caramel Frosting

1 C. brown sugar1/4 C. milk
1/2 C. butter1 1/4 C. powdered sugar
1/4 t. salt

Combine: 1 C. brown sugar, 1/2 C. butter, 1/4 t. salt. Bring to boil, add 1/4 C. milk. Boil 3 minutes Cool Add 1 1/4 C. powdered sugar. Beat until thick enough to spread.
